DRPG worked with Nationwide on a business transformation programme to bring 1,500 delegates together in a virtual world, pushing boundaries and creating new experiences. Embracing the remote working environment, we moved what would have been a live event into a virtual experience, uniting the best bits of a live event with endless digital possibilities. Nationwide together to launch a new strategy and re-organisation of the operating model. Embracing the remote working environment, we moved what would have been a live event into a virtual experience, uniting the best bits of a live event with endless digital possibilities. The main objective was to bring the leaders of the business together to engage them in the proposed plans. We wanted to immerse them in each of the three areas of the strategy so they could explore the vision and start to think about how it translated to their areas of the business.
The Solution and Activation
Bringing together our experts in communications, events, film and digital, we came up with a robust solution that would achieve the objectives and fully immerse delegates in content, creating interactions and experiences that would get as close to real-world engagement as possible. We carefully crafted the event to be delivered over two days and included a variety of content and experiences that took the delegates on a journey. This allowed them to explore at their own pace while making sure they saw all the mandatory content. The journey started with a series of teasers and pre-communications; these were supported by a physical pack that was sent to delegates, containing tools such as VR goggles, treats and information for each of the event days.
The event centred around a virtual world built in line with the brand. The creative took on a polymetric-influenced design to make it visually stimulating, while still being able to balance the network and bandwidth restrictions. The virtual world platform played host to different villages and attractions where delegates journeyed around and explored content by interacting with touchpoints. The content was brought to life through interactive PDFs, films, user-generated content, gamification, live chat and broadcasts, as well as augmented reality and virtual reality. The combination of these different mediums captivated the audience and provided a wide range of learning experiences.
The virtual nature of this event lent itself well to bringing the content to life using live rendered animations to deliver a strong augmented reality experience. The content was carefully crafted so that presenters would be fully immersed in |conceptual environments to show endless future possibilities. This was complemented with live interactions through voting, polling, Q&A and comments, all of which helped create a real-time connection with delegates. Delegates downloaded a bespoke app that gave them additional experiences and engagement opportunities throughout the day. The feedback was outstanding; the event reached a level of 99% attendance. It was supported by analytics only available in a virtual experience, where we could see levels of engagement and real-time feedback on certain topics. This allowed us to take this information and shape the ongoing business transformation plans. The platform remains a tool for leaders and is now being developed to be accessible to the wider business.

“Our annual Leadership event planning with DRPG started as it usually would, but a few weeks in we were thrown quite the curveball. No live events. With messages that needed to land with an almost 1,500 strong leadership population, we needed to make sure this was delivered in an engaging way, capturing people’s attention.
It was great to work with a team that adapted quickly to change, helping to solve issues from browser restrictions to accessibility requirements.
As always when working with DRPG, it felt as though we were one extended team, and that they were with us every step of the way.
As we move further into a world of virtual events, it was great to take our first step into this with an agency we trust to deliver our events to the highest standard.”
